Hello everyone, i think you know what's going on with the payment, game industry and the internet as a whole, so let me ask you this

What's your opinion on this thing thats happening right now?

I honestly think they're unlawful, and, due to the plans of forcefully enforcing the document verification process in the future on all platforms, will inevitably cut off people from regions that are deemed illegal by international law cut off from the internet due to their documents being invalid or services not being available, like with the Roblox's "Persona" service being unavailable in Russia and the unrecognized territories, making the verification impossible and, even if available, would result in the account being terminated for "providing documents that are invalid". This technically cuts off the "Unrestricted" rating from being set on your account

Life is shit if the law gets enforced worldwide, whos willing to talk using Matrix or something else and use computers from 2002?
also imagine having to show your id to a 3rd party website to access a source engine bulletin board lol.

Yeah, all this shit sucks now.
Making people put their IDs and drivers licenses through some random ass website just to have something like voice chat is probably not the best idea.
The UKs pulling some shit like this too, making laws to force certain sites into scanning peoples IDs, and sites that can't afford to get these ID verification services just get fucked over 10 times. Spacehey had to block out UK users because of it (spacehey help center link).

I like the idea of switching over to Matrix, but a lot of people are stubborn and hold on to shit like Discord even though it's going to shit.
Also recommend checking out XMPP, it's basically something like AIM, but decentralized and open source, and also has encryption stuff like OMEMO (wikipedia link).

God, i'm in the same rabbithole as you are, people are so used to Discord it's so annoying, there is this one friend who just wants to kill me for not using Discord, let alone being forced to use anything but Discord, he would joke for me to just E-Mail him or just MSG him on Steam, which is utterly stupid, Steam is basically insecure for chat talks and all that bullshit, even though there's millions of users on there it doesnt mean your messages aren't stored there
Same goes for discord, fuck them, they share msg's with gov's no matter what, their "Messages are End-To-End Encrypted" means jack, the UK will abolish it at some point

Also can we get a poll about if I should nuke the Discord server for SrcFreaks to be a Voice Only service or not? I would love to stop using that gabaje Ouch ;/ That's unfortunate, I would love to try out XMPP but i'm just afraid of it atm wwwwwwwww WHAT?
That is UTTERLY retarded. WHY? And it can be read through chat logs the server leaves behind??? This is utter bad security.

I guess at the very least they don't store their password in plain text too... unlike on AIM rehost

If you're gonna do that you might as well just delete the whole server and direct people to the TeamSpeak 2 server.
Nothing to be afraid of!! It's basically just like MSN Messenger or AIM but decentralized, and it has encryption standards like I mentioned in my previous reply.

XMPP isn't really anything scary.

If you're going more retro style, use Jabber, for more modern machines, use Gajim.
