< Return to the blog ケータイ - A remarkable thing that still exists -
Now, before smart-phones we had normal phones which in this day and age are called "dumb-phones" because, well, they're not smart phones, they're technically dumb and don't have the features new smart-phones have. One of the versions of phones that is the most looked up onto are the fun, amazing and satisfying flip-phones, they're majestic, feel nice and the sensation you receive from flipping it with one hand because "you want to be cool". Good times Nowadays, they're dead and are nowadays replaced by devices running Mozilla OS or whatever the cursed abomination is called, it runs slow, not that many things work on it and is generally the worst thing to own, but hey, at least it can run WhatsApp right? Right? If you have a phone like that, please, and I do mean PLEASE. Get rid of it. Even if it does the job you want just get rid of it for a standard phone from 2015-2018, they're generally just as cheap as the phone itself and can get you more stuff than whatever the cursed creation that is Mozilla OS running phones usually represent themselves But you think to yourself "Hey, I like flip phones! I ain't getting a smart-phone or a normal keypad phone, that's just too gosh darn boring!" and I will understand, BlackBerry phones suck bull and usually normal keypad phones are extinct or run awful software, but did you know there's a type of phone that will fulfill your lust for flip-phones and a decent phone that supports things? Let's talk ケータイ
Most of these phones do not use Google services, instead, they use the operator exclusive app services where you can download apps from, however, you do need to own an account meaning you have to be residing in Japan since they don't accept foreign numbers except for +81 regions SO, why am I talking about these phones? Well, you can put a bunch of stuff on them without the account, you can add banking apps, music apps, java game emulators, a lot of stuff, just as long as they're able to be navigated using the phones D-Pad since these phones do not support touch emulation!(However, if you are getting a phone that is old then that statement is semi-true, on older keitai phones there's a TOUCH CRUISER function, allowing you to enable the cursor for apps that are not made to be compatible with the D-Pad function). The best way to get a keitai that will work in the modern life is to look out for a phone using the following criteria's:
To preload apps, you must find them on the internet, I use F-Droid for some of these and scout the internet for the original download links for several apps I need, after downloading, you can pre-load them onto the device by using ADB, if you aren't tech-savvy enough then WebADB does the job as it has a friendly interface
I used 3 keitais in my entire life and the last one I have is the best of them all, being released in 2019 and supporting everything I need, payments, music, videos, etc. The newer, the better, but NOT TOO NEW! These days carriers are getting rid of some features from keitais to make people switch over to proper smartphones. In the next post, I'll probably write up about the phones I owned and how good they are on the spectrum. Write something about this postDo you want to write what you think of this post? Go ahead! But it will take some time for me to verify your post. New lines are allowed, by the way! < Return to the blog
