< Return to the blog The forgotten "hero" of half-life 2 before half-life 2 - a short post about concerned, the half-life and death of gordon frohman.
About the comic and what it has in store.![]() The official logo used by the web-comic without Frohman's face. "CONCERNED - a half-life and death of gordon frohman" is a web-comic that was created by Chirstopher C. Livingston a year after Half-Life 2 came out around 2005 by utilizing the game mod Garry's Mod to create panels in the process. It's one of those things that was basically the first things to come out after Half-Life 2 came out being the first ever comic created for the game. Because comic is a standard 8 panel comedy series, it brings familiar themes like the main character being dumb and just making everyones life worse while being good at everything else because he doesn't mean to do those things. It features all of your common characters like the G-Man, MetroPolice, Citizens, Alyx, and so forth. It also provides small little inside notes on what the writer used to make his comics, we can even see some screenshots taken for all the stuff, it's neat stuff! The entire comic lasted for 205 chapters or 204 if you don't include the credits and it was acclaimed greatly by normal people and also critics of game magazines, it was the first comic to have Male07, a model that is nowadays popular out of all citizen models, as the main character of a certain media far before the Machinima rendition of a fanfic by Djy1991 called "Half-Life: Full-Life Consequnces" was even made and uploaded to YouTube, hell, even before the fanfic itself even existed! We follow Gordon Frohman, a citizen who just came to City 17 before Gordon Freeman. Yes, his name is suppose to be that as the characters in the comic mistake him for the main guy and he has to correct the people. He follows the same route Gordon does... most of the time, and we also we also learn more about his backstory and all that stuff, he meets with G-Man and other casts, hes also in this comics universe responsible for destroying Ravenholm by bringing unwanted attention. It takes just a little before Gordon Freeman comes to the town, or rather appears in the train out of thin air and at the end we're pretty much at the end of the game before the citadel chapter takes place, or at the beginning of Episode One if we take in the account the last chapter. How do I read it?If you want to read the comic, you might stumble upon some issues while doing so. Lately, the current host that has CONCERNED available, SCREEN CUISINE, has no chapters, however, if you use Archive.Org or find a different host you will be able to read the comic from Start to Finish! However, Archive.org is recommened as some links in the notes are either different pages or have long since stopped existing. So either put hlcomic.net or find the blog on notmydesk.com, looking at captures before 2011 is the best option out of all years, as it will allow you to view everything pretty much easily. My summary about itGordon Frohman and the comic itself is amazing, I liked reading it and I binged it in 5 days, I usually don't read, but this has been one of those things I just had to make an exception for, I liked all the notes showing just how great Garry's Mod is even with it's limits in terms of flexibility. Nowadays, I haven't seen anyone talk about Frohman or the comics itself, the maximum you would find is people referncing John Freeman and thats it, It's sad that it fellinto obscurity around 2010, but, as the person who read it from start to finish, I highly really recommend reading it on a Friday Evening and dwelve into Frohman's adventure around City 17.
