SA:MP review
Post #18 - Written by jobz in 2025/05/11

So, you probably know GTA:SA and its amazing single player experience which is fun in itself, but did you know you could amp that to eleven by using a MultiPlayer mod created for it that was developed by the community and worked on since GTA:VC? I for sure didn't, but I heard about it several times

"San Andreas: MultiPlayer" or how it's commonly referred to as "SA:MP" either with or without the colon is a multiplayer modification for the highly-aclaimed game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" which was released in 2005 under the "active development" label and then shutdown support just 10 years after by its original creator. It allows you to play on servers hosted by the community without installing a 2nd game and use the original game as the base.

This mod is pretty interesting in itself because it converst a game that is SinglePlayer and has no functions for MultiPlayer at all into a fully-fledged MultiPlayer game without ANY available SDK from Rockstar Games, that's pretty crazy.

It was worked on since the release of GTA VC which is somewhere around 2003 and has since split into 2 versions, MTA(Multi Theft Auto) which is the original version of the mod that was released to the public and SA:MP, which is the one I will be talking about in this post.

I learnt about this mod through word of mouth from my classmates and also some of my friends on the internet, so that's prety interesting.

How do you play using this mod?

To play this mod, you must have a valid Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas v1.0 install, you cannot play the mod on v1.01, as v1.01 is basically v2 under the hood, and you also have to have a list of servers that are English and are still popular, the reason for that is that this mod is very popular outside of Americas and ESPECIALLY in Russia, so there will be a ton of "Realistic Hardcore RP" servers in the list tab and absolutely none or maybe dead english servers in the server list.

For that, my friend has found a server that is pretty fun to play on and is what my friends play on SA:MP and that is "GTA-MultiPlayer.CZ".

That server has a ton of fun features and also other stuff, you have an inventory, animations panel and so much more, this entire server is big in features that it actually amazes me that this is still GTA:SA under the hood. You can have organizations and all that shit, it's pretty crazy on how large it is!

This is basically GTAO for people who cant afford GTA V. Playing on this server with friends is a huge blast for me, as we were laughing our asses of because our friend uses a player model which looks like Kurt Cobain.

But, let's not get into sugar-glazing this server, because this server has some negative things about it that slightly piss me off

The inflated economy

Okay, so, imagine you're in Russia, actually, let's say you're in North Korea, FUCK, EVEN GTA ONLINE. Let's say you want to buy a car or a house, but when you look into the price you see things from 200k to 5m. This is this server.

The economy in this server is slightly botched, things cost way too much than what you expect them to be. Not even the in-game stores have things cost normally! And yes, people sell in this game, like, actually sell shit in this game, there's an entire user market there

The Leveling Up System

Sometimes you want to buy or even pick up something like a weapon, but wait! You're not level 2! This slightly pissed me off when I started playing this game, the worst part about it is that it's everywhere, want to buy something nice like clothes? Sorry, you're not at this level, go to binco and buy shit there. It's pretty much like this everywhere, which kinda sucks

The Game Shop and the Tokens

Because Rockstar never released a multiplayer version of GTA:SA and never provided a User Service Agreement with it except for when you install the game, the servers can make their servers P2W if they really want to. This server has a Game Shop and offer a "Premium" account subscription which allows you to get you the following, and yes, I copied this from the website itself.

  • 6 more slots for boosts
  • Non-stop bonus will reset after 12 hours offline
  • Bonus titles (command /title)
  • Hide on radar (command /hide)
  • Highlighting players on radar (command /highlight)
  • Ability to set a tag (command /tag)
  • Ability to change name color (command /color)
  • Color text in chat (command /textcolor)
  • Ability to change pickup labels color (command /labelcolor)
  • You will retrieve your weapons when released from prison
  • Ability to start poll (command /poll)
  • Ability to start auction (command /auction)
  • Ability to sell houses and properties (command /sell)
  • Ability to set house for sale (command /sellhouse)
  • Reduced price for selling house on Dynasty 8
  • Ability to change vehicle number plate (command /numberplate)
  • Ability to change vehicle police number (command /policenumber)
  • Ability to use timer (command /timer)
  • Ability to vote for next event (command /eventvote)
  • Ability to flip vehicle (command /flip)
  • Wager in dices up to $50000
  • Special items
  • You can add 50 players as friends
  • Reserved slot when server is full

This server gives WAY TOO MANY BENEFITS to people who have the Premium account, they give you the ability to hide yourself from the radar, highlight players on there, start auctions, set properties for sale and so much more.

The chaotic police station.

Honestly? If you ignore P2W stuff a the top, it's generally a nice thing to have fun in with your friends, shit, you might be able to get to the top ranks without doing the greedy shit and just grind the game out like a proper person, do not indulge in buying stuff for the servers if they provide services like that, it's best if you just donate to them in terms of just giving the money for server hosting fees and not try to give yourself benefits, don't play stupid, play smart and actually learn the ways of the game itself without giving yourself benefits.
